14 April - Derby Dragons triumph in style

DERBY RFC’s under-12s stormed to victory at the weekend in the three-counties championships - putting last year’s winners, Nottingham Corsairs, to the sword twice on the day. Playing on Corsairs home turf, in the Notts, Lincs and Derbys (NLD) Tournament last Sunday, rampant Derby scored three unanswered tries in their 15 - 0 final victory over Nottingham. The boys had already beaten the Corsairs 5 -0 in a hard fought group match and the two best teams were always destined for a rematch in the final.

On the day, Derby also beat Sleaford and a very handy Keyworth side in the pool stages, before a devastating 30-0 win over the highly-rated West Bridgeford in the semi-final. On the route to the final the Derby boys had won the Derbyshire Qualifiers and played seven games, scored 31 tries and hadn’t conceded a single score.

Congratulations to every single one of the boys from Simon and all the coaches – whoever was on the pitch the team spirit, the desire to win and the skills shone through. The cup was a fitting reward for the lads who have worked tremendously hard over the last few years. Well done to all.
